Mzuzu celebrates concourt judgement

Celebrations erupted in Mzuzu Monday after the Constitutional Court ordered fresh presidential election following nullification of the May 21 polls.
Soon after Justice Healey Potani delivered the ruling in Lilongwe, people took to the streets while chanting and singing, prasing the judicial system in the country.
In townships of Mchengautuba, Katawa, Zolozolo and Lubinga, people were also seen celebrating.
Speaking to The Daily Times, Chikondi Gondwe from Mchengautuba said she was happy that justice had prevailed on the matter.
“I was in pain since May last year and the court has healed my pain today. We have for the first time seen the justice from our courts,” Gondwe said.
During the celebrations, Malawi Defence Force officers were seen maintaining peace in the streets.
MCP deputy regional committee chairperson, Godwin Mvula, said the party’s supporters will celebrate responsibly today.
