Mzuzu gospel artists celebrate New Year with inmates

Mzuzu gospel artists on Sunday celebrated the New Year in style when they held a concert at Mzuzu Prison where they preached the word of God through music to the inmates.

It was a perfect day for the inmates who also had time to interact with the gospel musicians.

During the concert, inmates also showcased their different activities, including a performance by a choir known as The Last Messengers.

The Last Messengers opened the platform on the day dishing out a song titled ‘Posamila Nkono’, before another performance from Matabwa Fellowship Choir.

There was also a performance from Three Sisters Choir and Christopher Phiri who received praises for his act.

After the performances from the inmates, came the gospel artists who also put up spirited performances.

Some of the artists who performed included Gloria Hope Fatchi who offered her track titled ‘Kulibe Dzina Lina’, Martha Nthakomwa, Kelvin Sato and John Saidi.

Apart from the performances, the gospel artists also took time out to donate different items to the inmates and they included soap, orange squash and sugar worth K250,000.

Speaking on behalf of fellow artists, Sato said they decided to visit the inmates to interact with them but also show them love during this festive season.

“We just wanted to celebrate with our friends in the prison this being the festive season. In most cases inmates do not have time to celebrate the New Year and so we felt it right to thank God by being with them,” said Sato.

Northern Region Prison Chaplain Bright Nthala hailed musicians for their good gesture in interacting with the inmates and show them love.
