Nam eyes series for idle Queens

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has disclosed that it is discussing with two unnamed big teams to enable the Malawi National Netball Team take part in test series.
Unlike most teams that qualified for the Netball World Cup slated for July 28 to August 6 in Cape Town, South Africa, the Queens have been idle.
Nam Vice President Chimwemwe Bakali said they hope the Queens will play four friendlies before the World Cup.
“In our plan, we talked of a possible series and therefore a minimum of four games in the series. We are engaged in a discussion for a possibility participation of the Queens in a series. We cannot say much for now until the discussions have reached a point we can comfortably inform the nation.
“Apart from the series, we planned for other friendlies against at least two teams above us on the ranking. We will only mention the teams when agreements have been signed,” he said.
Currently, Bakali said they were banking on support from the government and FDH Bank to prepare for the Netball World Cup.
“At the moment we can only talk of the government and FDH. Again at an appropriate time, we would inform the nation of any possibility of having additional source of funding for the Queens.”
Queens were drawn in Pool B with England, Scotland and Barbados.
