Nam meddles in Queens selection

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) is interfering with the selection of Malawi National Netball Team players, Times Sport can reveal.

Sources confided in us that one of the senior players [name withheld] has been included in the squad despite failing to impress during national team camp squad held in February.

According to the source, the player did not participate in online training sessions after she was removed from the provisional squad in February.

“It is pathetic that we are imposing some of the players on the national team coach. If you can ask the coach, you will be told that the out-of-form player was not in her final list after trimming the squad. It is not every member of the executive that is supporting the move. Maybe two or three members are the ones pushing for some players to be in the squad,” said the source.

Queens coach Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa has since Saturday refused to comment on issues surrounding the squad.

Nam General Secretary Isaac Chimwala could neither deny nor agree that they had interfered in Queens selection.

However, Chimwala said, as an executive, they also make contributions to the squad for the good of the team and game.

“It is not interference but we make decisions to include or remove players for the good of the team,” he said.

Queens were expected to regroup Monday in readiness for 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games slated to run from July 28 to August 8
