Nam relieved over Queens ranking

SOUR MEMORIES—Queens lost three games to South Africa

Carol Bapu

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Carol Bapu has said the association must not rest on its laurels after the Malawi National Netball Team maintained position six on the latest International Netball Federation (INF) rankings.

“It is good that we maintained our rank during this difficult time. Our plans to be active were frustrated by restrictions as a result of Covid-19. However, we will work hard to be active so that we should not only maintain the rank but improve it,” she said.

Despite being stagnant since December last year, when they lost three successive games to South Africa, the Queens survived Uganda’s scare on the latest INF rankings released on April 9.

Uganda’s She-Cranes competed in the Spar Challenge Tri-Nations in South Africa, where they finished behind the hosts, Spar Proteas, and above third-placed Namibia’s Debmarine DesertJewels.

Meanwhile, South Africa are fifth on world rankings and fifth in Africa. Australia are at the top followed by New Zealand on second and England on third. Jamaica are ranked fourth.

There are 44 teams with an INF ranking.
