Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary, Carol Bapu, has said they will run a campaign to promote Malawi national netball team player, Lauren Ngwira, to win the Vitality Superleague Player of the Season Award in the United Kingdom (UK).
“We are planning to run a sensitisation programme so as to ensure that Lauren gets more votes. This is a good development for the country. She has been to the UK for a few months but she is doing well, so we need to support her,” Bapu said.
Despite joining Team Northumbria midway through the season, Ngwira is among 10 nominees for the award.
“It is has been an unbelievable experience for me. To earn a nomination alongside top players in the league is not easy considering that I am just new. All I can say is, thank you God!,” she said.
Playing as a goalkeeper, Ngwira has won player-of-the match awards twice in the league.
According to www.skysports. com, teams were asked to nominate their top players.
“Now we want you to decide the winner. As we gear up for the semi-finals and grand final of the 2018 campaign, it is time to reflect of another brilliant season of Superleague action.
“As well as this year’s champions, there is also the decision on who should be crowned the Sky Sports/Vitality Superleague Player of the Year and, once again, the decision is yours,” reads part of the article.
Ngwira joined Northumbria from Tigresses after a protracted transfer wrangle.
The towering player is the second Malawian in the UK league after shooter Joyce Mvula of Manchester Thunder.
Mvula is completing her second season after joining from Blue Eagles Sisters.
