Nam wants historical Airtel Money netball

Netball Association Malawi (Nam) has challenged district teams to leave a mark in the third and final season of Airtel Money national netball trophy.

The competition, which is expected to run for three months, will be launched in Salima on Saturday.

Nam general secretary, Carol Bapu, said district teams should not underrate themselves but fight to impress in the competition.

“They should look beyond the district level and aim to reach the regional and national finals. If they are determined, they can make history. Nothing is a barrier. They just need to change their mentality,” she said.

Bapu said Nam, together with the sponsors, were finalising logistics to make the final season colourful and entertaining.

Bapu said the format has not changed, hence the competition will start at district level, where champions will qualify for the regional finals, then national finals.

Airtel Malawi launched the K360 million three-year sponsorship in Lilongwe in October 2013.

According to the contract, about K70 million was earmarked for Airtel Money trophy annually, while the Queens were entitled to about K25.7 million annually.

Currently, Tigresses are the two-time national defending champions.
