Nam yet to open contract talks with coaches
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has not opened negotiations with Malawi senior national netball team coaches, Peace Chawinga-Kalua and Mary Waya, over their contracts which expire after two months.
Nam president, Rosy Chinunda, during the week insisted that she was hopeful of retaining the services of head coach Kalua and her deputy Waya, whose contracts end on May 20. Usually, contract talks are supposed to start some two months before actual expiry
“They are our own people who, no doubt, are determined to continue contributing to the country’s netball development. Unless you tell me that they have applied for Botswana jobs, we have no reason to panic. Very soon we will start negotiations,” Chinunda explained on Wednesday.
She was referring to a job vacancy for a head coach Botswana Netball Association has placed on International Netball Federation (INF) website www.netball.org. Application window closes tomorrow.
Botswana association is looking for coaches with a minimum of Level Two coaching certificates which Waya possesses.
Botswana Netball Association president, Teboho Lebotse, during the week confirmed that they had opened up the coach-hunt to foreigners.
Waya is highly-qualified and is the among very few International Netball Federation trainers of coaches in Africa.
Waya and Kalua during the week insisted that they were yet to hear from Nam over the contract talks.
