National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc last week wrapped up its 12 Days of Christmas initiative by donating a borehole, text books and chalk boards valued at K11 million to Liwonde Primary School in Machinga.
Through the 12 Days of Christmas initiative, the bank has been donating various items to various education and health institutions across the country worth K50 million.
NBM Head of Retail Banking Oswin Kasunda said the initiative was part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) policy to give back to the communities by celebrating together with customers.
‘‘We have service centres across the country and we thought we could do something for the communities. We understand the school is facing water challenges and that is why we came up with this donation,’’ Kasunda said.
Liwonde Primary School head teacher Steven Chalira applauded the bank for the gesture.
‘‘We will ensure we take care of these items. We have a high enrollment which means some learners are taught outside, thereby creating a demand for more chalkboards. We are grateful this donation will address those challenges,’ Chalira said.
NBM also donated medical and educational equipment and other items in 12 districts.
