National pool finals July 24
The outgoing Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) has announced it host the first ever Malawi National Pool League finals on July 24 in Lilongwe.
Mapa’s outgoing general secretary, Saulos Thindwa, said the finals would be held, the association’s elective annual general meeting set for July 23 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
He said nine teams would compete for honours.
Thindwa said Northern and Southern Pool Leagues will send two teams to the finals while Eastern Region will have one team with the hosting region (Central region) providing four teams.
He said they used regional registration forms to determine the number of teams to take part in the finals.
“The more the registered teams, the more the number of teams at the national finals and vice-versa,” he said.
Meanwhile, Thindwa said all positions in the executive were up for grabs.
“However, aspirants wishing to contest must be nominated by Mapa affiliates. Besides that candidates must also have served in regional committees as elected official,” he said.
Thindwa said aspirants must collect nominations forms from Mapa and submit them before July 16 which is the deadline.
“Failure to do so the aspirant will not be allowed to take part in the election process,” he said.
The outgoing committee was hailed after it successfully hosted All Africa Pool Association games at Robins Park in Blantyre.
Malawi featured both men and ladies teams but they failed to impress despite playing at home.
Prior to the AAPA Games, Mapa bought state of the art pool tables to qualify to host the games.
Currently, Mapa introduced the first ever national club championship as a way of promoting the sport.
