NBM tells customers to use cashless payments
National Bank of Malawi (NBM) on Tuesday urged its customers to use their Visa or MasterCards during the festive season celebrations to enhance security of their savings.
NBM Corporate Affairs Manager Annie Magola was speaking in Blantyre when the bank hosted a luncheon for business journalists.
Magola said ATM cards provide a safe way of moving around with money unlike carrying bags of money around.
“We would like to encourage customers to do all their transactions using cards during the festive season. We at National Bank have Visa as well as MasterCards which would help facilitate the process,” said Magola.
She said by using the cards, customers would be able to pay for anything in stores provided the shop has a point of sale device.
“During the festive season, crime is on the increase so we would like our customers to be safe by using cards when buying things or making any form of payment.
“With National Bank, customers can also make payment using our mobile phone platform called MO626,” said Magola.
She described the year 2015 as tough for business, saying t h e operating environment made doing business tough. The year 2015 was among others, punctuated by rising inflation, high interest rates and a falling kwacha.
Magola, however, thanked the bank’s customers for the continued support during the course of the year.
