NBS Bank chief gets accolade

By Thabi Kamwangala:
NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer Kwanele Ngwenya has been recognised among top African leaders with the Africa Leadership Magazine accolade.
Ngwenya is among Africans who have been recognised in various categories under the award.
The award is a decade old and is given annually to Africans with outstanding merit in the year under review, who then becomes recipients of awards including that of person of the year.
Ngwenya has been credited for turning NBS Bank from a loss-making financial institution to a profit-making business by introducing financially inclusive products and financing infrastructure projects.
The projects include the Area 18 interchange in the capital, which is the first of its kind in Malawi.
Ngwenya said he was honoured to be among the awardees.
“I am humbled to be recognised and it is a great honour when others recognise your efforts,” he said
The awards presentation ceremony took place in London last week, with some African leaders in various parts of the world joining and participating virtually.
Among some of the recipients are eminent political, business, civil society individuals from Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia.
Nominees were shortlisted from results gathered through calls for nomination, which is the first step in a multi-phased process.
