Nelson Kangunje player of month for June
Civo United midfielder Nelson Kangunje was probably the happiest person in the TNM Super League last Saturday as besides inspiring his team to a 1-0 win over Mzuzu University (Mzuni), he also won the player-of the-month of June award at Mzuzu Stadium.
He received a golf shirt, Itel phone, a trophy and K30,000.
TNM representative Steve Abraham, congratulated Kangunje for displaying an enviable performance the whole month of June in the K90 million 15 -member league.
Abraham said for a player to get the accolade, he needs to win at least the man-of-the-match award twice or more against other players.
And Kangunje did just that. He first won it against Mighty Be Forward Wanderers despite losing 1-0 then he grabbed another after beating Silver Strikers 2-0.
Civo United coach, Oscar Kaunda, said he was proud of Kangunje.
The midfielder-cum-striker, has scored seven goals.
Kangunje provided the assist for striker Charles Chilemba to score a goal against Mzuni.
“I am delighted and grateful to God. This is the first time for such a thing to happen in my life. I will work hard until the Flames’ coach sets his eyes on me,” Kangunje said .
Civo United’s general secretary, Rashid Mtelera, said the victory over Mzuni and the award, inspired the team which went eight matches without a win.
Mzuni coach, Alex Ngwira blamed the loss on poor defending.
Mzuni got a consolation in goal keeper Rabson Chiyenda who won the man of the match award.
Civo is now on position 10 with15 points from 12 games.
