Netball body clears Airtel trophy mist
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has cleared uncertainty surrounding dates for district, regional and national finals for Airtel Money netball trophy.
The district finals will be held during the weekend of April 1 and 2 with the regional finals scheduled for April 23 and 24.
Nam has also set the weekend of May 19-21 for the national finals in Lilongwe.
The association’s general secretary, Carol Bapu, said they were consulting before identifying the dates.
“We need to flow in the same direction. We had to consult to make sure that we are on the same page,” she said.
Bapu said the arrangement would help teams, regional and district committees to plan for the events.
“As of now, we don’t have any assignments involving Malawi national netball team. We will have national assignments in July, so we have ample time to prepare,” she said.
Currently, Tigresses are the two-time national defending champions.
Airtel Malawi launched the K360 million three-year sponsorship with Nam in October 2013.
According to the contract, about K70 million was earmarked for the trophy annually, while the Queens were entitled to K25.7 million each year.
Some 400 teams have joined the national netball trophy this year.
