The Netherlands Ambassador to Malawi, Barbara van Hellemond, last week visited Malawi Stock Exchange-listed NBS Bank in Lilongwe.

Among others places, van Hellemond toured the bank’s Capital City Branch as well as appreciated how NBS Bank agent banking platform, Banki Pafupi, is operating.

Speaking after touring the operations, van Hellemond said her government was financially supporting the partnership between NBS Bank and Rabobank.

She said she was impressed to see how the partnership is impacting local communities by bringing banking services to their doorsteps.

“The government is supporting this partnership between NBS Bank and Rabobank to improve banking services as well as to help reach out to more customers in Malawi.

“I am very happy to see that the partnership with Rabobank has led to the creation of a digital platform that is able to expand the services around Malawi and reach out many people, especially the rural community,” van Hellemond said.

NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer Kwanele Ngwenya, who was accompanied by NBS Bank Director Matthews Mtumbuka and other management officials, said the Dutch government had invested a significant platform aimed at driving financial inclusion in the country.

Ngwenya described van Hellenmond visit was an honour, saying it helped her to appreciate what agent banking is doing to the local community.
