A national network glitch has paralysed Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services offices, leaving applicants stranded.
When The Daily Times’ crew visited Lilongwe Immigration Offices, it learned that the department had not issued any passport since last Friday.
The crew also saw stranded applicants who were just roaming around the offices in the hope that network would be back sooner than expected.
As at noon Monday, the department was only processing travel documents such as border pass, which does not need processing through the system.
Central Region Immigration Department spokesperson Patrick Msume referred The Daily Times to national spokesperson Wellington Chiponde.
When contacted, Chiponde admitted that there was a network challenge.
“We are, indeed, experiencing technical glitches with our passport issuance system. This matter is receiving urgent attention and we are optimistic that such technical issues will be rectified with utmost speed.
“We, therefore, urge passport applicants not to panic as we are committed to rectifying such inevitable technical glitches,” Chiponde said.
