Tiyuni Investments of Lilongwe Thursday unveiled a new football team, Tiyuni FC, outlining comprehensive plans to develop football in the country.

The team has since engaged former Silver Strikers head coach, Stain Chirwa, to lead the team in the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Chipiku Premier Division.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony at Civo Club House in Lilongwe, Tiyuni Investments Managing Director, Kamphinda Gowa-Nyasulu, said the team’s ultimate goal is to earn TNM Super League promotion.

Nyasulu said the purpose of the team’s formation was to promote football, mainly focusing on the youth.

“We will invest a substantial amount of money in the team to make it one of the best teams in the country. Our goal is to see the team playing in the elite league next season,” Gowa-Nyasulu said.

He further pledged to invest in sports infrastructure.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Vice-President, James Mwenda, urged the new team to focus on youth football development.

“We cannot talk of meaningful football development if we don’t invest in grassroots football. I urge you to combine football development and also encourage the players to focus on education,” he said.

Chirwa said he had assembled a good squad capable of earning Super League promotion.

Reports suggest that Tiyuni are targeting Silver rejects, Ndaona Daisi and Ian Banda.

Tiyuni FC will participate in the Chipiku Premier League after purchasing Maicc FC league status.
