New Silver Strikers coach wants 3 players

Silver Strikers Coach Pieter de Jongh has asked the club’s board to beef up the squad with three or four quality players before the start of the season.
The Dutchman observation comes after assessing the team for two weeks in readiness for the forthcoming season.
In an interview Tuesday, de Jongh said, for Silver to compete for trophies, he needs a minimum of three new players.
“If we get three or four quality players, I will be happy. The board is already aware of that,” the Dutchman said.
However, he did not disclose which positions need new players.
Silver have already signed former Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Chimwemwe Idana on loan from Tanzanian club Mbeya City FC, China Chirwa from TN Stars, Gift Chunga and Emmanuel Kaunga from Ekwendeni Hammers.
Striker Hassan Kajoke also signed a pre-contract with Silver and will likely join them at the end of his contract on March 31.
The Dutchman also said, during the first two weeks, he had been focusing much on fitness levels of the players.
“The players have been fantastic. This is a good club and I have enjoyed the first two weeks in Malawi,” he said.
Silver will likely offload more players after the Dutchman recommended that the club should register 25 players.
Silver acting Chief Executive Officer Faith Mzungu Vilakati referred this reporter to the board.
However, Silver Board Chairperson George Kaudza- Masina was reluctant to comment on the matter.
Both Silver Company Secretary Peter Masiye and board member responsible for technical affairs George Chiusiwa were not readily available for their comments.
The new coach, who signed a two-year deal, has been told to win at least a league title and a cup. Silver last won the league title 10 years ago and last won a trophy in 2021, when they lifted the FDH Bank Cup.
de Jongh has vast experience in African football, having coached FC Platinum and Highlanders (both Zimbabwe), FC Leopards in Kenya, eSwatini and Somalia national teams, among others.
