NGO trains communities in pig farming
Life Skills Awareness and Development Organisation (Lisado) has introduced a pig farming project aimed at transforming lives in Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba.
Lisado has trained people in Ekaiweni, Elamuleni and Endongoleni in pig farming practices such as feeding, housing, and agri-business.
Lisado’s director of operations, Pastor Moffat Phiri, said on Tuesday in Mzuzu that training the farmers in pig farming practices would help to address the poverty and hunger the families are facing.
“As a Christian organisation we believe people in the rural areas should live a good life, families should able to find money to pay fees for their children’s education and feed their families.” Phiri said.
He also challenged men in the area to help address gender issues by encouraging participation of women in the project so that they become self reliant.
Phiri further disclosed that plans are at an advanced stage to construct an agriculture office in the area which will ensure that the pig farming initiative is done at large scale.
Lisado is under Victory Temple Church, an outreach programme which has projects in the areas of education, health and agriculture in the northern region.
