It seems like Malawi’s TNM Super League is fast attracting interest of foreign players.
In a latest development, a Nigerian football player, Aneke Chimezie Chukwudubem, is undergoing trials at Silver Strikers.
Silver Strikers treasurer, Fred Kalonga, who is now acting general secretary, confirmed the development.
The player has been secretive about his personal details to the point of refusing to give his full name and former club.
However, The Daily Times has found out that the player’s former club is Abia Comets FC.
The player was spotted at Silver Stadium training with the team on Tuesday.
But Kalonga disclosed on Wednesday that the player arrived in the country last month, claiming he was a free agent.
“He told us that he is a free agent and we have given him a chance to prove his worth. If the coaches are happy with his performance, we might offer him a deal because we don’t have enough defenders,” said Kalonga.
Ironically, Silver are on the verge of losing defender Lameck Kachimanga, who is set to join Nigerian club, Dolphins FC.
Silver coach Stain Chirwa said he was not ready to comment further on the issue because he was still assessing the player.
“I need more time to assess him because a day is not enough to judge performance of the player. I will have a clear picture of the player by the end of this week,” said Chirwa after Tuesday’s training session.
The Bankers also have Ghanaian striker Samuel Siaw, who impressed the club during trials but is yet to complete his move because he is still a minor.
