The annual Nkhotakota Music Festival is back and will this year be held on April 28.

The festival has made headway in its initiative of giving artists the platform to showcase their talent. It achieves this by, among other things, reaching out to the community with live acts using well-known artists.

Nkhotakota Music Festival Manager, Tor Rand, said Wednesday that all was set for the event.

“We will have a one-day festival this year. It will be held at the cultural centre in Nkhotakota,” Rand said.

The festival, which started in 2014, is spearheaded by Nkhotakota Youth Organisation (NYO) and is supported by players such as Music Crossroads Malawi.

NYO is a local non-governmental organisation, established in 1997. It seeks to reduce unemployment levels, facilitate skills’ development and recreational activities among the youth.

Rand said the festival promotes arts and culture in the country while selling Nkhotakota District to the world.

Meanwhile, organisers have announced some of the artists set to perform at this year’s festival include Anne Marie Quinn, who is a United Kingdom-based singer and guitarist but is currently staying in the country, C.O., Lily Banda, Gumba, Daughters Band, which is an all female group, Jaco Jana, Zebra Band and African Fusion.

There will also be traditional dances such as Gule Wamkulu.

Daughters Band, which has such names as Phales Kumdana (bassist) and drummer Chikondi Macheso, also performed at the festival last year.
