No budget yet for Sadc summit

With about a month to go before Malawi hosts the 41st Southern African Development Community (Sadc) Summit, the country is yet to come up with a budget for the event.
Malawi will host the summit on August 17 2021 but it will be preceded by Sadc meetings from August 9 to 16.
President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to take over the chairmanship of the organisation from his Mozambican counterpart Filipe Nyusi.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has told The Daily Times that technical subcommittees for the event are working on the budget.
Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Rejoice Shumba said the budget would be known in due course.
“Once Technical Committee budgets are finalised and consolidated, we will be able to give you the final budget for the summit,” she said.
The summit will be preceded by the Standing Committee of Senior Officials and Finance Committee from August 9 to 12, Council of Ministers Meeting from August 14 to 15 and Organ Troika Summit on August 16 2021.
The ministry has called on the private sector and well-wishers to partner in hosting the summit.
On June 24 this year, Chakwera said Malawi would take advantage of the summit to market itself.
