‘No Saulos Chilima supporter will enter DPP convention hall’

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional governor for the Northern Region, Kenneth Sanga, has said no individual who is in favour of Vice-President Saulos Chilima’s presidential candidacy in 2019 will be allowed to enter the venue of the party’s convention.

Sanga said this on Tuesday at a development rally organised at Edingeni in Mzimba Hora Constituency soon after Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jappie Mhango, launched the construction of Chakadzi Bridge in Mzimba District.

Sanga said names of delegates to the convention are under his care and, as such, he will make sure that no ‘Judas’ attends the indaba.

“We are not going to vote for a presidential [candidate] at the convention because President Peter Mutharika will go unopposed. This has been our stand and remains as such.

“Those who are calling on Chilima to take over and represent the party in 2019 Tripartite Elections are ‘Judas’ [Iscariots] and are just wasting their time because they will not get that chance; no baby will attend the convention.

“President Mutharika is our leader. I promise you [that] anyone with different views other than this [view] will not see the door of the convention [hall] but only those who will put President Mutharika in the hot seat [will attend],” Sanga said.

Sanga added that Malawi is being destroyed by the so-called ‘political analysts’ who, he said, are “fake”.

“There are people called political analysts. Do not listen to them because they are not real but fake people,” Sanga said.

His sentiments were echoed by DPP director of youth in the Northern Region, Kelvin Chirambo, who called on Chilima to come in the open as regards his position on calls that he should challenge Mutharika.

“As for the youth of the Northern Region, our loyalty is to President Mutharika and we will fight to the end,” he said.

Taking his turn, Minister of Transport and Public Works Jappie Mhango, who is also DPP national campaign director, said Mutharika will represent the party in 2019 Tripartite Elections and carry the day.

“President Mutharika is not old. As a matter of fact, he is stronger than ever. Let us all support President Mutharika so that he can finish all the development plans he has outlined for this country,” Mhango said.
