No date set for Queens camp
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) is unsure of when Malawi National Netball Team will go into camp in readiness for the Fast5 Netball World Series set for Hisense Arena, Melbourne, in Australia.
The two-day competition is expected to throw off on October 28.
The Queens face a daunting task to build on their impressive performance of last year when they finished on third place for the first time in the competition.
Nam General Secretary, Carol Bapu, Tuesday said she was not better placed to comment on the Queens’ camping schedule.
“Maybe you should contact me on Wednesday [today],” she said.
The delay could be attributed to funding concerns as Nam prepared a budget of K76 million, which also caters for the Queens’ trip to England for three test series.
Nam needs K30 million to enable the Queens travel to Australia for the Fast5 Series.
Director of Sports, Jameson Ndalama, was unable to grant The Daily Times an interview Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Queens Assistant Coach, Sam Kanyenda, has said the coaching panel might include more new faces in the team’s next call-up.
“We are not going by names but, rather, performance in the just-ended GOtv Netball Champions League which used the Fast5 format,” he said.
