No excuses for Kukoma Diamonds in GOtv race
Former GOtv Netball Champions League winners, Kukoma Diamonds, will have no excuse if they fail to reclaim the trophy.
Diamonds assistant coach Noel Mussa, said the team was basking in confidence having recently secured a K4.5 million sponsorship from Capital Oil Refining Industry (Cori). He said there was need to impress the sponsor.
“The players are now motivated. Last time we failed to defend the trophy because we were facing serious financial problems. The coming in of Cori, through its brand Kukoma, has motivated our players to work hard,” he said.
“We have noticed a change in attitude during training sessions and we hope to put up a spirited performance in the GOtv Netball Champions League.”
Mussa challenged the players to perform above expectations to impress Cori and safeguard the sponsorship.
“We know that discipline is paramount, but we also need good performances to promote our sponsors’ brand,” he said.
Diamonds were the first team to win the competition which was using Fast 5 rules. Complex Tigresses won last year’s championship.
This is the first time that teams from the Northern Region will participate in the Champions League. Central and Southern regions have contributed three teams each. The eight participating teams have been drawn into two groups of GOtv-Plus and GOtv- Value.
Defending champions,Tigresses, Blue Eagles Sisters, Mimosa Queens and Mafco were drawn in GOtv-Plus , whereas GOtv -Value comprises Kukoma Diamonds , Civonets, Thunder Queens and Lameck Queens.
