None of Malawi’s four footballers based in South Africa— Limbikani Mzava, Gerald Phiri Junior, Robert Ng’ambi and Gabadinho Mhango—have been nominated for player of the season awards for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and cup competitions.

PSL released the list of nominees for the 13 categories of the awards on Monday, with coaches also vying for their accolade.

Coaches will vote for PSL Footballer of the Season, a category 2018/19 league champions Mamelodi Sundowns’ players have dominated following the nomination of Captain Hlompho Kekana and team-mate Themba Zwane whereas runners up Orlando Pirates have contributed to the list midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch.

The trio will also battle for Absa Premiership Players’ Player of the Season award whereas the recognition for the best goalkeeper is among Peter Leeuwenburgh (Cape Town City), Ugandan Denis Onyango (Sundowns) and Ronwen Williams (SuperSport)

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has been nominated for Coach of the Season award alongside Pirates’ Milutin Sredejovic (Serb) and Cape Town City’s Benni McCarthy.

City’s Gift Links will vie for the Young Player of the Season prize alongside Bloemfontein Celtic’s Bongani Sam and Teboho Mokoena from SuperSport United. Prize presentation will take place on May 19 in Durban.

Zimbabwean goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze (Baroka FC) will compete for Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament award alongside team-mate Mduduzi Mdantsane and Lorch.

Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament award has attracted Zimbabwean Khama Billiat (Kaizer Chiefs), team mate Bernard Parker and Zakhele Lepasa (TS Galaxy).

Mhango, Ng’ambi and Esau Kanyenda (now retired) have won such awards before.
