No new album for Alleluya in Italy
Balaka-based musical group Alleluya Band has said they have no plans to release an album this year in Italy.
The group has in the past years taken advantage of their annual Italy trips to record albums, some of which have not been well promoted.
Alleluya Band’s former leader, Coss Chiwalo, said Sunday they had no intention of recording new songs in Italy although he indicated before their departure in June this year that he would be working on his own album.
“The new album for the group will be done next year and not this year,” Chiwalo said.
The group is yet to come out with a powerful album and, in most of its performances, it has relied heavily on old songs.
Early this year, Chiwalo alongside the group’s leader and vice Paul Subili and Getrude Naluso, respectively, released a collection titled The Best of Coss Chiwalo, Paul Subili and Gertrude Naluso which has 12 songs.
Chiwalo described the album as a gift to people as part of Alleluya Band’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
The group is in Italy for a tour which this year has been dubbed Gadugadu. The title was created by Alleluya Band’s founder Father Mario Pacifici.
“This year has been great as usual with so many things to learn in terms of growing our music. We have held close to 33 shows at the moment and we are remaining with six before we come back home,” Chiwalo said.
Chiwalo is one of the oldest members in the group and has been in music for close to 30 years. He has six albums to his credit.
Alleluya Band is expected back home later this month.
Meanwhile, Madalitso Band – the duo of Yosefe Kalekeni and Yobu Maligwa which was on a tour of Europe and held several shows—returns home today.
“They have had a successful tour performing in France, Norway, Switzerland and with United Kingdom. Over the weekend, they had a performance at the Malawi High Commissioner’s office in London,” the group’s co-founder Emmanuel Kamwenje, said Sunday.
