Malawi national women football team coach, Thom Mkolongo has excluded Europe-based Chisomo Kazisonga and Tabitha Chawinga from the squad that went into camp on Sunday.
Malawi is tuning up for a friendly match against Tanzania on October 24 2015 in Lilongwe.
Chawinga is currently dominating the Swedish women football second tier league having scored 43 goals to lead her Golden Boot chase.
Her stellar performance has helped Kvarnsveden IK maintain pole position in the league this season.
On the other hand, former captain, Kazisonga, is working hard to make an impression in Austria where she plays for NOSV Neulengbach reserve side.
However, National Women Football Association chairperson, Severia Chalira, said the two players were left out due to lack of funds.
“We just have to make do with the players we have. Since this is our first match in three years, the other players also have an opportunity of making an impression,” she said.
Chalira said the two foreign-based players would probably be recalled to the national team in December when Malawi expects another friendly match.
“We hope that they will be back for holiday in December, so we could include them in the squad. We really need them in the team but financial challenges could affect their availability,” she said.
The association would be responsible for the air fares for both players.
Information from travel agencies indicates that a return air ticket to Australia is in the region of K600,000 whereas to Sweden it is around K500,000.
“But we are certain that they will be part of the squad that will take part in the Cosafa Cup in Seychelles in March 2016. We also have Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next year,” she added.
Mkolongo said he wished he had his full arsenal to build a strong squad.
“We need to return on the international scene with a strong performance. However, it is understandable that we would have problems in getting our professional players. We have to make do with what we have,” he said.
