Organisers of the Urban Music People (UMP) awards have said there will be no music awards this year.

One of the directors, Ken Limwame, better known as Zizwa, confirmed the development Tuesday.

“Regarding awards, we have changed our strategy abit, we will hold only fashion and media awards and not music awards,” Limwame said.

He, however, was quick to say that the music awards would be held next year at a date they would announce later.

“UMP, as a movement, has, of course, been vibrant we have been holding several activities including college tour and UMP 50:50 female empowerment in arts,” Limwame said.

He also said they held DJ’s competition during the Blantyre Summer Party.

He could not be drawn to say much on why they would not be holding the music awards ceremony which has become a common feature for UMP since it started.

“We will return next year. Last weekend the music awards will not be held due to both internal and external factors,” Limwame said.

He said the fashion and media awards will be held in December.

“We would like to thank all stakeholders, fans, artists and the media for their continued support. UMP is still here,” Limwame said.

Some of the artists who received awards during last year’s event include Piksy and Shammah Vocals.
