Nomads Coach justifies changes

Mighty Wanderers Coach Bob Mpinganjira has asked the team’s supporters to appreciate tactical changes rather than boo the team.
Mpinganjira was forced to make the remarks after a section of Wanderers fans objected to the substitution of his son, Wisdom, and midfielder Vitumbiko Kumwenda for Mike Kaziputa and Rafiq Namwera, respectively, during the team’s 1-0 win over rivals Nyasa Big Bullets.
“We make changes due to different factors. Sometimes it can be an injury or tactical change to achieve a specific mission. Therefore, if a player is performing well we can substitute him to change our approach or contain pressure or attack more,” he said.
Mpinganjira said booing substitutes can also deflate players.
“Instead of booing the players, I will encourage our supporters to cheer the team so that we should perform better. I cannot make a substitution to disturb the side. The decisions I make are in the best interest of the team. So, against Bullets, we changed our attacking system and shape to defend our goal. I am glad that it worked,” he said.
Wanderers defeated Bullets 1-0 courtesy of Vincent Nyangulu’s 32nd minute goal on Sunday to leave the TNM Super League wide open to the top three sides.
