Nomads fined K650,000
Football Association of Malawi Disciplinary Committee has fined Mighty Be Forward Wanderers K650,000 for perpetrating violence on Mangochi Police Football Club during their Carlsberg Cup semifinal game two weeks ago.
Wanderers beat Mangochi 1-0 to date a final fixture against Silver Strikers on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium.
Fam general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda says in a press statement released on Tuesday evening that the Committee considered a response to the charges from Wanderers as well as reports submitted by the match coordinator, the police, the stewards, the referee, the match commissioner, Mangochi Police FC and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
“From the reports it clearly emerged that Mighty Be Forward Wanderers supporters invaded the tunnel and the dressing area during the interval despite being aware and having been advised that they were not allowed to do so,” reads the statement.
Nyirenda said Wanderers Football Club were fined K500,000 after being found guilty of bullying a Mangochi Police Football Club goalkeeper, George Chauya, by pouring pork soup on him.
Wanderers were also fined K150,000 for bringing the game of football into disrepute following the negative publicity as a result of the actions of its supporters.
However, the Committe also observed that Mangochi goalkeeper was not physically assaulted as alleged by Mangochi Police Football Club but he got injured in the field of play when he collided with a Wanderers player towards the end of first half.
The club has been asked to pay all the fines before its next fixture.
