Nomads sign Nigerian defender

Fisd Challenge Cup champions, Be Forward Wanderers, have made their latest signing after roping in Nigerian centre-back Raphael Otibhor Udah.

Udah, who penned a three-year contract with the Nomads on Tuesday, will compete for the position with Harry Nyirenda, Bongani Kayipa, Lucky Malata, Denis Chembezi and Peter Cholopi.

Wanderers General Secretary Mike Butao and Udah’s representative Honest Nkhwazi confirmed the development.

Butao said Udah, who was last on the books of Duhok SC in Iraq Premier League, was their last signing of the season as they wanted to have a 28-member squad.

“He is a central defender and we are delighted to have him at Wanderers,” Butao said.

“He has played on the big stage in countries such as Finland. We tried him when we were playing a friendly against Southern Region Select and the technical team recommended him; so, we are happy to have him.”

Nkhwazi said Udah, who joins compatriot Babatunde Adepoju at Wanderers, has all it takes to play for the giants.

“We have been talks in with Wanderers for the past two weeks and on Tuesday we signed a three-year deal. I can’t disclose much on what is in the contract,” he said.

Udah has joined a growing list of foreign players doing duty in the Super League such as Ghanaians Eric Estigah (Masters Security), Michael Tetteh (Silver Strikers) and Yusuf Sherrif (Silver).

Meanwhile, the Nomads have extended the contract of left-winger Mike Kaziputa by two years, following the expiry of the previous agreement in February.

“First of all, Mike is our longest-serving member, so, after having a meeting; with him, he accepted our offer to renew his contract,” Butao said.

Earlier this year, the Nomads signed Francis Mkonda, Babatunde and Vincent Nyangulu from Masters Security FC to replace Joseph Kamwendo, Esau Kanyenda and Yamikani Chester, who left Wanderers for greener pastures.

Seasoned striker Peter Wadabwa also left Wanderers and plays club football in Mozambique.

The Nomads also roped in Chikondi Kamanga from their reserve side and signed Richard Rabson from Hangover United.
