Nomads upbeat on sponsorship

Carlsberg Cup kings and Fisd Challenge Cup finalists, Be Forward Wanderers, are confident that their sponsor, Be Forward Limited, will extend their support when the current deal expires next month.

In 2015, the Nomads and Be Forward signed an annual K70 million sponsorship agreement, which was revised to $150,000 (about K105 million) this season.

Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, said there were strong signs that the marriage would continue beyond December 31, 2016.

“We are not panicking because the actual evaluation is done in December. At the moment, we do not want to say much on the long-term sponsorship. We are glad that the sponsors visited us recently, which is a sign that they love the team,” Butao said.

He also acknowledged that the sponsors challenged them to win the TNM Super League title so as to participate in the Caf Champions League.

Be Forward Limited could not be reached for a comment yesterday.

Last season, Wanderers indicated that they would, for the first time in 16 years, participate in the 2017 edition of the Caf Champions League.

Despite assembling a star-studded squad, the Nomads have struggled to mount a serious league title challenge. They are on sixth place on the log table with 41 points from 26 games, eight points behind leaders, Kamuzu Barracks.

The Nomads last won the league championship in 2006 under the tutelage of Zimbabwean mentor, Rahman Gumbo.
