Personal aide to former president Peter Mutharika, Norman Chisale, will appear in court Friday to start answering charges of impersonating a person named in an academic certificate, police have confirmed.
Chisale is being accused to using a Malawi School Certificate of Education that does not belong to him.
According to a statement signed by National Police Public Relations Officer James Kadadzera, the police have investigated 20 cases whose files are ready for prosecution.
“As of October 12, 2020, two of these files were sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for prosecutions. The service further states that investigations on other cases falling in the same category are still underway and that Malawians shall be updated on the finished cases that are ready for court.
“The cases in question include those of arson, murder, abuse of office, money laundering, theft by public servant and assault,” Kadadzera says in the statement.
Chisale was first arrested in relation to the duty-free important of cement using Mutharika’s Taxpayer Identification Number. Mutharika disowned the transaction and went further to state that he had no project that would require K5 billion worth of cement.
Chisale was then rearrested on another charge where he allegedly shot at a woman while pursuing some men in Chimwankhunda Township in Blantyre before he was picked once again in relation to the murder of Issa Njauju who, until his death, was Director of Corporate Affairs at the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
