The 2019 edition of the 2.5 million Jappie Mhango Northern Region Volleyball League (NRVL) reaches the finale this weekend with teams in the men’s and ladies’ categories set to battle for honours at Katoto Secondary School courts in Mzuzu.
Teams set to fight for ultimate glory in the men’s category are Moyale, Katoto Trickers, Moyale Troopers, Mzimba Spikers, Rumphi Amagents, Rafiki, Chibavi Spikers and Police Eagle Claws.
The ladies category has Rafiki, Katoto Queens, Moyale Queens and Eagle Claws.
NRVL Chairperson, Kafumu Nkhoma, said the games would also help their teams in finalising preparations for this year’s Zone VI Senior Volleyball Club Championships which Malawi will host at African Bible College in Lilongwe from December 13.
“This is a perfect opportunity for us to help our teams fine tune for the Zone VI games. We want them to be good representatives of our league. Our sponsor has also made a commitment to help the teams which will make the grade,” Nkhoma said.
Moyale senior player, Aubrey Mpeyama, said they were eager to impress at the regional tournament after lifting the Raiply National Volleyball Trophy last month.
“We know that there is an international competition ahead of us and we have been preparing. The regional tournament will be like a dress rehearsal for us,” Mpeyama said.
