A week after presiding over Central Region Volleyball League (CRVL) elections that saw Robert White retaining the chairmanship unopposed, Volleyball Association of Malawi (Vam) will carry out a similar exercise up North on March 6.

Vam general secretary, Jairos Nkhoma, explained that the elections were a way of ensuring that all affiliates abide by the association’s constitution.

Nkhoma said Vam set an example for its affiliates through holding timely elections in November 2015.

“Statutes must be respected at all times. It is important to hold elections when the time comes. Office holders should not overstay. We are happy that everything is going according to plan as far as our affiliates are concerned,” he observed.

Northern Region Volleyball League chairperson, Kafumu Nkhoma, confirmed the date of the polls, saying it would coincide with the winding up of the league sponsored by Vam president, Jappie Mhango.

He said all positions would be contested for, and that there are requirements for candidates to fulfill.

“Those wishing to contest must have been involved in active volleyball at a regional level for a minimum of two years. They should also have an MSCE as a minimum qualification,” stated Nkhoma, adding that the league expects every contestant to be sober minded.

He also said every aspiring candidate must be in a position to dedicate and commit their time to volleyball.
