Northern Region clubs flop in GOtv
Northern Region teams’ poor showing in the ongoing GOtv Netball Champions League continued over the weekend.
The region’s representatives in the competition—Lameck Sisters and Mimosa Queens—struggled during the tournament, which took place in Mzuzu.
Lameck Sisters failed to register a win after losing 33-7 to Tigresses and 23-20 to Mimosa on Saturday.
On Sunday, Lameck’s misery continued when they lost 31-9 to Civonets and 20-12 to Mafco Soldiers.
On the other hand, Mimosa lost to Blue Eagles Sisters and Thunder Queens by a margin of 36-13 in each game.
Kukoma Diamonds also thumped Mimosa 29-16.
Northern Region Netball Committee (NRNC) Chairperson, Chancy Munthali, attributed the two Mzuzu teams’ unimpressive performances to a lack of tournaments in the region.
“That is what happens when teams stay idle for a long time. We have been writing [sponsorship] proposals to several companies, but we are yet to get a positive response from the corporate world. So, it is a big challenge,” she said.
Diamonds lead the standings with 13 points from seven games followed on second place by Civonets with 11 points.
Lameck anchor the eight-member league without a point in seven games.
