Northern Region Football Association is an image of shame

Things seem to be getting out of hand between the Football Association of Malawi and its problematic baby Northern Region Football Association (NFRA). The genesis of it all is that for the past three consecutive years the region has failed to produce a league champion without controversies.

Last week, 16 out of the 18 teams in the Simama League, which is run by the NRFA, petitioned the regional body to step down or threatened not to participate in this years’ Simama League.

What is annoying is that this threat is coming after Fam president, Walter Nyamilandu, apologised to the sponsor of the league, Bishop Simama, for the mess the regional body has created.

It would appear there is no end in sight for these controversies and the nation is fed up. There is no way Malawi football can be dancing to the tune of these shameful characters. This confirms that the NRFA is rotten to the core.

It is high time Fam dissolved this association and gave them a year to put their house in order before calling for fresh elections. After all, Malawi football cannot suffer because the NRFA and its 18 teams have been suspended for a year.

What they are doing is more detrimental to the beautiful game than them staying a year in hibernation. There is need for the broom to sweep the entire house clean and start afresh. It would appear some of the NRFA officials were high on cannabis when making crucial football decisions.

To me, this NRFA is a circus. I know there are some people in this NRFA who will consider me a lunatic and they will say, “Ichi ndi chindere chomene” but I have no apologies to make for my fierce criticisms against these upstarts masquerading as football administrators.

There is something significantly wrong with this NRFA. It is unfortunate that NRFA is full of cowards and they are afraid of criticising each other. No wonder, there have been this mess for the past three seasons.

This is the price football pays when the association is not concerned about developing the game but satisfying individual egos.

These administrators are the images of shame, incompetency and confusion. Malawi football can afford to abort all of them.
