EU ambassador to Malawi, Sandra Paesen, told Mutharika that the EU would continue to implement strategic priorities of cooperation between the two countries in line with the European Development Fund programme for Malawi.

Paesen highlighted agriculture, governance and accountability and social programmes as some of the critical areas.

“We are here to stay. We are partners of Malawi [looking at] what we do in education, agriculture and all programmes.

“However, I want to say that Malawi is also a political partner to us. The country is making huge investments through peace-keeping [missions and] we applaud the country for that,” she said

Norwegian Ambassador to Malawi, Steinar Egil Hagen, said Norway would continue supporting Malawi’s development agenda.

Hagen further said Norway would also promote private sector investment

“The embassy will work on that to stimulate and get private sector players in Norway to invest in Malawi, particularly in the energy and agriculture sectors,” he said

The EU Ambassador succeeds Marchel Germann while Hagen succeeds Kikkan Haugen.
