Norwegian Ambassador to Malawi, Steinar Egil Hagen, on Saturday treated children at Living Christian Church in Lilongwe to an early Christmas party.

Hagen, who spotted Father Christmas regalia, distributed assorted gifts to the children.

The envoy said this was his first time to be Father Christmas.

Hagen said his government has lined up a number of activities to promote the well-being of underprivileged children in Malawi.

“We are giving a lot of support to health and education sectors. We are promoting education for girls. We have many programmes that aim at promoting the well-being of children in Malawi. And we have a long-term approach to our support to Malawi,” he said.

Pastor Kachimera of Living Christian Church said they organised the party to give children an opportunity to experience the love of Christ.

“It is significant to bring children together because that is an opportunity to let them experience the love of Christ as they get even the gifts. As they receive the gifts, they are also reminded that the greatest gift is given to the world, who is Jesus Christ,” Kachimera said.
