By Bernard Mhone:
Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) has said it is finalising paperwork to enable former Karonga United Chairperson, Alufeyo Chipanga to implement K1 million man of the match accolade to Premier Division teams.
“We are yet to finalise supporting documents. We want everything to be documented. Nevertheless, we commend his gesture because it is timely. It will motivate players to work hard. The league needs such help and others will emulate,” said the leagues General Secretary, Masiye Nyasulu.
Chipanga said the initiative would be bankrolled through his company, Chipanga Clearing and Forwarding.
He said according to the arrangement, each man of the match will pocket K4,000 token of appreciation in each league game.
“I just want to bring competition and motivation among the players in the league. It is through this initiative that we can discover great talent. These are some of the unique incentives that the region has been missing all along,” Chipanga said.
The development comes at a time Banda expressed interest to compete for the post of NFRA vice chairperson.
Banda said his offer was not a campaign gimmick.
“I know that people associate the support with my intention to contest but it is not like that. I am a sportsman and I love football and I have been supporting various activities,” Banda said.
