National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) President Eric Mabedi, popularly known as Jakobo in the arts circles, has said the body is targeting to create lots of opportunities for members by connecting with the government and the corporate world.

Mabedi said it was important that actors and actresses remain active on the market and that one of the ways of keeping them lively is to create opportunities for them.

He, however, said the theatre industry needed to produce quality work if it has to win the hearts of players out there.

“We are living in a world where there is so much competition and we, as the theatre industry, must strive to produce quality works so as to get support,” Mabedi said.

He said they were happy that some players have started coming out to work with them, citing their relationship with Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec), which involved them in the electoral process.

“We have shown that we have the potential to work with the government as well as the corporate world. We just want to call upon other players out there to utilize us. Apart from holding our own performances, we can also be engaged to produce plays for their products,” the veteran actor, who is also Kwathu Drama Group, said.
