Police in Ntcheu have arrested six men who were mounting obstacles along the M1 Road at Lizulu and robbing motorists of valuables.
Ntcheu Police Spokesperson, Gift Matewere, said the six men have been evading police officers for some time and continued to mount stones between Mapira and Kachipeya villages in Lizulu.
“We have been receiving many complaints from users of the M1 Road that thugs have been obstructing their vehicles by mounting big stones on the road and stealing from them. We started conducting patrols within the area and this led to the arrest of the six men on Thursday [yesterday],” Matewere said.
Matewere further said the six; Tiago Yohane aged 35, Sakondwera Betiwelo, 31, Francis Chitani aged 21, Allan Fumbusani, 21, and Chiyembekezo Clement 22, all come from Mapira Village and were operating from their village.
“This gave them the advantage to evade the men in uniform once they mounted a manhunt for them because they were hiding in their houses.”he said.
He further advised people not to be scared anymore travelling at night along the M1 Road, especially at Lizulu, because the men in uniform are in control.
“People should not fear. They have to use their road freely because we have put in place measures to end these barbaric acts. It’s our mandate to protect life and property. So we will live up to that mandate and crack down on these thugs,” he said.
