Ntchisi Catholics reach out to the sick
Christians at St Clare of Mpherere Catholic Parish in Ntchisi District on Saturday donated assorted food items and cheered patients at Ntchisi District Hospital as part of Christmas celebrations.
St Clare Christian Community Chairperson, Matias Miranzi, said the purpose of the donation was to celebrate with the sick who do not have time to enjoy Christmas because they are bed-ridden.
“As Christians, this is the time we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and we want everyone, whether sick or not sick, to enjoy Christmas as God heals them,” Miranzi said.
He said it is the duty of the church to take part in caring for the sick.
“The people are the ones who make the church. If the people in the church are sick, the church cannot grow. So, we should support them when they are sick,” he said.
Ntchisi District Hospital Nurse and Midwifery Technician, Agness Mbewe, thanked St Clare Christian Community for the donation.
“Some of the patients had nothing to eat; they had no soap, among other things, and the donated items are a relief to them. They will also be able to celebrate withc others as part of Christmas,” Mbewe said.
The donated food items include sugar, body lotions and soap and are worthy K105 000.
