Nthukutila ya Ndakatulo at BCC

With poetry gaining ground in the country and attracting impressive audiences during its gatherings, poets continue coming up with different events with the latest being Nthukutila ya Ndakatulo.

Nthukutila ya Ndakatulo set to feature poets; comedians and musicians will take place on Sunday at Blantyre Cultural Centre.

Poet Sylvester Kalizang’oma said Nthukutila ya Ndakatulo is a new group which has been created and that its aim is to promote poetry in the country.

“On Sunday people will enjoy performances from the old and up and coming poets. This is also part of launching the group and part of the proceedings from the event will go towards assisting up and coming poets to produce albums,” said Kalizang’oma.

He said through the group, they want to reach all the corners of the country.

“We intend to register this group. We are not trying to bring down Poetry Association of Malawi (Pam) as others might think but we just want to complement Pam’s work. We need to grow poetry in the country and so we have to do it in all angles,” said Kalizang’oma, who is the director of the group.

The Pam Publicity Secretary said the gathering on Sunday will bring performances from among others poets Felix Njonjonjo Katsoka, Norman Nyirenda of the ‘Para Nawona Nurse,’ fame, Hudson Chamasowa, Mada Nyambo, Samuel Joseph, Luckier Chikopa, Kenneth Khondiwa and Yohane Pangani.

There will also be performances from comedian Mr Jokes real name Andrea Thonyiwa, presidential mimicker Frank Naligonje and music performances from Ronald Thamakera, Smacks, Eliza Mponya , Joseph Chirwa and dancers GYV.

“After a long time we also decided to bring on board Mr Jokes and so we just want to call upon people to come in large numbers and patronise this event,” said Kalizang’oma.
