TNM Super League champions Nyasa Big Bullets opened an 11-point gap at the top of the table when they concluded their first round assignments with a hard fought 1-0 narrow win over debutants Sable Farming at Kamuzu Stadium Friday.

However, Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa, typical of mind games, insisted his side was under construction in the title race.

“We are learning. Defeat can come, win or draw, it is part of the game. These boys are learning and they need time to mature,” he said.

Pasuwa also conceded his charges struggled to unlock Sable who matched Bullets in all the departments.

“They were matching us in all the areas we were playing. In second half, they went down and we were dominating but we missed several chances in front of the goal,” he said.

Pasuwa also justified his decision to substitute playmaker Patrick Mwaungulu, saying the youngster needs to be protected to develop thoroughly.

“Mwaungulu is still learning, sometimes I will give him to you or hide him from you. If the game is too tough on him, I will reserve him. It is for his mental aspect of the game for the boy to grow up,” he said.

Sable Coach MacDonald Mtetemera said it was frustrating to lose, having created several chances.

“The penalty somehow affected us but I told the boys to work hard. In the second half we had chances but we did not utilise them,” he said.

Babatunde Adepoju converted a penalty in the 37th minute to help the People’s Team win.

The penalty was awarded after midfielder Ernest Petro was fouled in the 18-yard box.

Following the win, Bullets have finished the first round with 41 points, having dropped four points when they drew with Blue Eagles 1-1 and Karonga United 0-0.

Second-placed Blue Eagles, having played 14 games, one less of Bullets, have 30 points whereas Mighty Wanderers who are in action against Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium lie third with 25 points from 14 games.
