Newly found sponsors of Malawi TNM Super League football champions, Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC) has hinted that Big Bullets could return to take part in the Caf Champions League as a way of promoting both the club and the company’s brand both locally and internationally.

The two parties are set to begin a five year deal worth K500 million at the start of the next year.

After a glorious campaign in 2004, Bullets returned to Caf Champions League but they were booted out in the second round. However, the participation left Bullets in deep financial problems.

Nevertheless, NMC executive director, Dimitri Kalaitzis, speaking in an exclusive interview said they had engaged Bullets executive committee to consider playing more international games.

“We have engaged the executive committee on the possibility of increasing the number of Big Bullets games against foreign clubs both home and away so that we may further market the Club and brand outside the country,” he said while hinting that Caf Champions League could provide such platform.

But Kalaitzis could not divulge detailed information as plans were underway.

Kalaitzis said their core priority was to complement and strengthen the Nyasa Big Bullets Club and Nyasa Manufacturing Company brands.

“This includes investing in the necessary promotional materials that will grow the brand loyalty and strengthen the team. In addition we aim to promote the lives and careers of the players with an emphasis on grassroots and youth development,” he said.

On infrastructure for the club such as a stadium or a club house, Kalaitzis said they will assess the situation on the ground to come up with an informed decision.

“As this is the first year of marriage we will utilise the current assets and determine over the following year the needs of the club. We are confident that as a championship team, through marketing our brand material we should be able to raise enough funds as a club to fulfill the needs of the future,” he said.

Kalaitzis also said the company was also making plans to actively involve the supporters committee to enhance promoting Nyasa products and the Nyasa Bullets replica jerseys sales.

“As you are aware Nyasa Manufacturing Company has a phenomenal brand loyalty and Nyasa Bullets Football club have a tremendous following. Between the club executive and the Nyasa Marketing team, we are busy identifying the synergies to market all the promotional material.

“As for the Nyasa Big Bullets replica Jerseys and all official merchandise we have engaged local suppliers who are producing high quality products that will be made available to the fans through various channels. We are working closely with the supporters who have been very helpful and instrumental in helping us identify distributors and the right promotional strategies,” he said.
