Nyasa Music Awards in category sponsors’ hunt

It may not be a good feeling to emerge from rehearsal rooms and gaze straight into the eyes of failure due to poor preparations.

It could be in fear of that prospect that, realising that any failure in the inaugural awards set for May 5 this year may portray them as people who made it (failure) premeditatedly happen, Nyasa Music Awards have come out of the cocoon to invite others to sponsor categories of this year’s inaugural awards.

The excuse, of course, is not that the organisers do not have capacity to sponsor the categories in question. Who would do that?

Instead, one of the organisers of the awards, Chifundo Maganga, has said this is a way of giving “a chance to individuals and organisations to be part of this Red Carpet Event”.

The event will be held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

“[We] want as many young entrepreneurs and individuals [as possible] to own the awards by fully participating in whichever way they can. Everyone interested [in sponsoring] can contact us and the minimum is not much. We want young entrepreneurs to choose a category which they can sponsor and in return we will help them advertise their products and services,” Maganga said.

Maganga said, although some entrepreneurs have sponsored categories of their choice, some categories are up for grabs.

“We want to do things differently. Most of the time, young entrepreneurs are left out but they equally need the chance to be part of such events and we believe Nyasa Music Awards will provide that opportunity,” Maganga said.

The Nyasa Music Awards have been organised to, according to the organisers, appreciate local talent and empower artists and musicians in Malawi to compete favourably on the international market.

The awards are being run by a three-member team of Mathambo Lowole, Chifundo Maganga and James Makunje.

The members have been involved in a number of music events, including performances by South Africa’s DJ Cleo in Blantyre and Lilongwe; South Africa’s Zahara at 15 Sports Bar in Blantyre; South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest in Blantyre, among others.
