Nyasa to pay players’ dues
Nyasa Big Bullets sponsor, Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC), has promised to settle players and coaching staff ’s unpaid dues for February after the executive committee failed to honour its obligation.
NMC chairperson, Konrad Buckle, said the sponsors were dismayed with the failure to pay the players last month.
“It is unacceptable for us as sponsors to see the players going unpaid because they are the main stakeholders of the team. We understand that the executive committee failed to pay the players because there was over-expenditure during the friendly matches against Dynamos,” Buckle explained.
“We are happy that the team won but we do not want to see the players going unpaid. Our priority is the welfare of the players. We will pay the wages of the players and staff for last month and we will always make sure that their welfare is always alright.”
While Buckle could not reveal how much they would spend, the club’s monthly wage bill is estimated at K3 million following the review of the wages since Nyasa came in with an annual K100 million sponsorship.
The club was embroiled in turmoil recently after the chairperson, Sam Chilunga, threatened to quit over alleged sabotage and in-fighting within the executive committee precipitated by some alleged factions.
The sponsors threatened to pull out sponsorship if Chilunga resigned and they called for a meeting with the club’s trustees, executive committee members, supporters’ committee and three captains to restore peace at the club.
