NYFA suspends U-20 League
National Youth Football Association (NYFA) has suspended FMB Under-20 League games across the country to pave way for some of the league’s players to sit for Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.
The exams started on Thursday.
NYFA Chairperson, Chimango Munthali, said they have created space for the players to concentrate on the examinations because the association values education.
“It is the wish of every parent to see their children excelling in class. Therefore, we have devised mechanisms to ensure that the league should, after the examinations, catch up by having some games played midweek,” Munthali said.
Football analyst, Higger Mkandawire, has since commended the suspension of the league, saying football can benefit a lot by having educated people in its ranks.
“Even parents and guardians for these players would certainly be encouraged by this development and they cannot restrict their children from taking part in sports because they know that they are able to balance the two. This is also demonstrates that the association is responsible,” Mkandawire said.
